How I Invented the Purse

Once upon a time, in a village not so far from Chicago, I found myself dependent on crutches nursing a broken ankle. As it so happened, I discovered that I needed to carry lots of small things, but I could no longer manage.

The problem started with a wristlet to carry my student ID and money, and then chapstick, and then an iPhone that wouldn't fit inside the wristlet, and then a pale pink Moleskine notebook.
